I'm with you, and as a demonstration of good faith, I herewith submit a
post. Even if no one comments, at least it isn't spam...

I use a killfile and never see spam here. I had no idea we were having a
problem. I just assumed that everything had been said or that people
putting their energies into non-usenet fora.

No excessive spam here either.
It may depend on your provider's newsserver.

That was just dawning on me... I've noticed complaints in several other
news groups about a feller calling himself MI5. Although I do employ a
kill file list, MI5 isn't on it, and I've never seen a posting anywhere
by him.

So now I'm curious. Of those who are plagued by this excrescence, how
do you access newsgroups?

I'm using a newsreader called Unison, and I access the nntp server at
Panic.com. I don't think that they filter any traffic, yet no sign of
MI5 here!

I use a reader called "tin" and my former employer's servers for 90% of my
newsgroup reading. I also use Mozilla's email/ng package and Mindspring's
news servers at home, occasionally.

I have seen Mr. MI5's messages often in the past, but while I currently
see many people discussing them, I haven't seen the messages themselves in
quite a while. FWIW.

I've seen that MI5 spam once or twice in other groups. But this group
doesn't get very much spam.
Amazing though, how those frustrated kids spend so much time on futile
activities; it's like they're carrying coals to Newcastle. (Do I hear
one asking 'What are coals?'?).
Their spam e-mails are automatically dumped in my junk folder anyway
and are removed without my having to look at them.
Once in a while you notice a new kid on the block (a 'blockhead'), and
then you tend to have a look and a good laugh.

Try google groups, old egg. they're all in there. I noticed them
appearing a few days ago and considered paging Dr Glossop at the time
but thought better of it.

What ho, The;

Still, AFW shouldn't take it personally. This "MI-5 persecution"
chappie is sharing his little psychotic episodes with every newsgroup I
read, across a wide range of subjects; I rather suspect that they're
going to every group of whose existence he is aware. It seems unlikely
that he actually reads most of these groups, though I suppose it's
possible that he greps for responses, like...er...oh, my!

A thought occurs to me, in passing: Is it possible to make a donation
to MI-5? And would it be tax-deductible?

Ta!

Not a bad idea, possibly. To encourage you (okay, and to show off, just a
little):

Some time ago there was a poster at rec.sport.tennis who, successfully, tried
to be a nuisance for one and all. Believe me or not (but you can), I told him
to stop and, remembering P.G.W., added: 'I know your secret'. A shameless lie,
of course. But his reply was the question whether we couldn't take this to
private e-mails....and then silence.

Is it fun? Sending bizarre missives to hundreds of groups with no apparent
personal gain?

Never could see much in it myself.

That's strange... I haven't noticed any spamatall® except, perhaps for
the feller that wanted to build wood houses! Potty, if you ask me, but
then they all are!

sorry 'bout that... kinda got into my Dunstable mode there...
