What ho! I just picked up The World of Mr. Mulliner at a library sale
for a buck. Does this volume contain all the Mulliner stories?

I think Pillingshot has said that there are some editions that are
missing one or two of the later stories. If the table of contents
includes 41 stories, including "From a Detective's Notebook", you've got
the works.

The copy I have unfortunately contains only 27 stories, 9 each from
the books ''Mulliner nights'', ''Meet Mr Mulliner'' and ''Mr Mulliner
speaking''. I suppose, apparently it gives a broad miss to the
Hollywood Mulliner stories.

Exactly. For some reason or other the later editions of this book missed a
lot of stories. What you want is the 1974 edition which contains 42 stories.

Huzzah! A quick perusal of the table of contents reveals 42 tales from
The Truth About George to From a Detective's Notebook.

Thanks ever so.

What rot! Did you ever in your puff hear of anything so scaly?

Scaly maybe but true. Swordfish's edition of the Mulliner Omnibus by his
own admission only contains 27 stories. The 1974 edition has 42. Why this
should occur I do not know but it is certainly rummy.

Mine, alas, is a 1999 edition, sadly shortened.

What ho, Pillingshot;

The general consensus of opinion is that it has something to do with the
Fourth Dimension.

Yes, yes. The fourth dimension. I never could work out ''The Amazing Hat
Mystery" (Young Men in Spats). Some unthinking chaps would just say the that
hatter made a mistake in the delivery and sent the wrong hats to the wrong
customers. Forsooth! the hatter was Bodmins! Impossible scenario. Obviously
the fourth dimension was involved.
