Sounds like a bit of a beat-up to me. Plum was a journalist in those days
so was obviously aware of political goings on- but that doesn't make him
partisan. The article never claims these plays were any more than satires,
a la The Parrot, and surely would if they were. The WW2 thing 40 years
later is irrelelevant.

Yes, I thought that too. The WW2 stuff was irrelevant. The satire in this
book is very dated now and a knowledge of the songs of Gilbert and Sullivan
(which I do not have, sadly) would be a big help to the reader but the notes
on the text certainly help understand what is going on. "The Globe By the
Way Book" is also dated satire but still amusing in places and this book too
deals with some of the same issues as depicted in "Bobbles and Plum".

(Q.1) I was referring to "Bobbles and Plum: Four Satirical Playlets". (Q.2)
I bought a second hand copy of the facsimile edition of "The Globe By the
Way Book" that was published in 1985 by James Heineman and Sceptre Press.
This issue was originally limited to 500 numbered copies and mine is number
428. It was bally expensive too. I paid $192.00AU for it.

I found a facsimile edition, library binding, online at Amazon a couple
of years ago published by Classic Books in May 2000. It was brand new,
hardcover, and the spine bears the marking C3241. It was US$98. They
currently show one used copy for US$250 from Half Moon Books, but it's
a 1985 paperback edition. You might keep an eye open at some large
retailers in the event one of these pops up...
