In "The Luck Stone", which appeared in "Chums" under the pseudonym Basil Windham and now available on Madame Eulalie in the orginal weekly installments via <http://www.madameulalie.org/chums>, there is a reference to a detective named Denman Cross. He seems to be the hero of some stories in "Chums" by Herbert Maxwell.

Is anyone able to confirm whether this author is in fact the historical novelist Sir Herbert Maxwell?

According to the FictionMags Index, this "Herbert Maxwell" is a pseudonym of W. J. Lomax (1863-1929), so I would guess the answer is "No."
